Cheese:

Cheese is rich in tryptophan. Tryptophan is an amino acid that helps produce serotonin. Serotonin is used to create melatonin. Cheese is a great source because there are many different kinds of cheese. Cottage cheese is one of the better options because it is high in lean protein.

Cherries and Cherry Juice

Increasing your melatonin intake can prove to help you get better sleep during the night. Cherries are a natural source of melatonin and when eaten on a regular basis can help regulate your sleeping cycle. A study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food showed that a glass of cherry juice could help you fall asleep faster.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is one of the best foods for better sleep. The grains in the oatmeal trigger the production of insulin. This naturally raises your blood sugar which makes you feel tired. The oats in oatmeal are also rich in melatonin.

Turkey

Turkey contains tryptophan just like cheese does. This could be the explanation as to why people tend to fall asleep after Thanksgiving dinner. Eating just a little bit of turkey in the latter part of the day can help you get a better night’s sleep.
