Vitamin B2 (also known as riboflavin and formerly known as vitamin G) is a water-soluble vitamin in the B vitamin complex. Liquid vitamin B2 supplements are easy to use and highly absorbable. Common to the B vitamins is their role in the conversion of ingested carbohydrates to usable energy (glucose) and the breakdown of fats and proteins. Riboflavin is also responsible for proper skin development, as well as the maintenance of healthy digestive tract lining, blood cells, and other bodily systems. In the U.S., foodstuff manufacturers are generally required by law to fortify refined flour—which has been stripped of valuable nutrients—with riboflavin (B2), thiamin (B1), niacin (B3), and folic acid (B9). Accordingly, it can be ingested from virtually any foods made with enriched flour, as well as various meats, milk, eggs, nuts, and green vegetables.
Because of the ubiquity of enriched flour, riboflavin deficiency (also called ariboflavinosis) is uncommon in developed countries. But riboflavin is excreted in urine, and insufficient dietary intake of riboflavin can lead to ariboflavinosis, which is generally accompanied by other deficiencies. Symptoms of riboflavin deficiency include dry and scaling skin, cracked lips, sore throat, iron-deficiency anemia and mouth ulcers. Riboflavin deficiency can be easily corrected through appropriate dietary ingestion or through the use of a vitamin B2 supplement.
People use a liquid vitamin B2 supplement for ariboflavinosis, headaches, muscle cramps, acne, carpal tunnel syndrome, eye conditions, Alzheimer’s disease, athletic performance, immune support, burns, alcoholism, liver disease, and blood disorders. But scientific trials have yet to be conducted on most of these uses, and while studies indicate that taking a riboflavin supplement may reduce the frequency of migraine headaches and prevent the development of cataracts, the results have not been conclusive. Riboflavin supplements should not be taken to justify delaying a medical consultation, and any information encountered on the Internet or other media about the efficacy of riboflavin should not be treated as absolute truth.
At Matsun Nutrition, we have quality liquid vitamin B2 supplements that would be perfect in any supplement you could hope to make.
